Defroster Not Doing Its Job in Your Vehicle?

Defrosters don’t get a lot of consideration, until they aren’t working well.

The big surprise about defrosters is the system that drives it… the air conditioner.

It is your air conditioner that helps to get the moisture out of the air (and off the windshield). When you turn the defrost on, it’s your air conditioner that kicks in to help get all that moisture out. So, if your air conditioning is not functioning properly, you’re not going to have a good defrost during those dark, cold, early mornings.

Do I really need to fix my AC in December?

If you’re noticing that you’ve got a wimpy defrost, yes, please consider it.

Let’s talk for a second about the rear defrosters

It’s really important that your rear defrosters are working properly… and we are happy to test whether or not they are.

A bigger issue… maple donut smell in your cabin

It may sound nice at first, but if your car’s cabin emits a sweet, maple-donut scent on its own, with no pastry bag or pink box in sight, it could be that your heater core is going bad.

A heater core is for the heating system. When it’s leaking it can potentially leak into the inside of the car. And you don’t want to be in a contained space when there is an antifreeze leak… it’s a poison.

Main takeaways in this post are:

The defroster removes moisture with the help of your car’s air conditioner

I have nothing but good things to say about Tom's Auto! I had stopped by before and they helped with my windshield wipers, free of charge and without having been a paying customer before. That's just one example of many--they are incredibly professional, friendly and trustworthy, and they've 100% earned my business for life. They seem to genuinely want to help their clients, and to educate them on the problems. I've NEVER had a report with photos from any car-related company...ever! I love that I found a local business I can support, that I can trust and that's only a few minutes away 🙂 Thank you!

My car is older, a 2005 PT Cruiser and from what I was told by a previous mechanic not the easiest to work on. Tom's has kept it running very good since I started taking it there, much better than before. The professionalism and customer service are top notch as well. Never had one interaction that I could say was off or bad. And I love the lockbox option for your key if you have to pick up your vehicle after hours. I've lost my back up key so the lockbox was a lifesaver. Call or email them when you need something done. You'll be happy you did.
